Wide Belts - Spring’s Hottest Fashion

July 30th, 2007

The word is out-wide belts are the hottest fashion accessory for spring-the perfect compliment for the gorgeous dresses slated for spring and summer. Belts look great with many different styles of dresses hitting stores, from free-flowing sundresses to shirt dresses to tunics. Really wide belts (3 inches or wider) are a hot ticket item, as are leather sashes, leather or cloth wraps and stretchy cinch belts. Get one in grey, black, brown, red, white, metallic, and pretty much any vibrant color.

Wide belts add the right feminine touch to shirt dresses, and a more tailored, modern look to shift and tunic dresses-a flirty girl-next-door flair to full skirted dresses for evening.

How to wear wide belts

The key to wearing wide belts is to wear them high, as in right under the breast bone. These belts are meant to accentuate the upper dating and cinch the waist, unlike the sunblock kind that went through your belt loops to either a) hold up your pants and/or b) accentuate your fanny. If you’re curvier, a wide belt is extremely flattering if worn correctly. A wider belt worn high can melt off pounds-no trips to the gym required.

Now that I’ve touted the benefits of wide belts, it’s time to talk about wide belt no-no’s. A belt seems like it’s a simple enough concept for most to figure out. But we’ve all seen the Don’t section in Glamour. Don’t be a don’t: avoid cheap looking belt made of synthetic material, or one that’s too big. If it gaps in the back, it’s not the right belt for you. Likewise, if you feel like you’re about to pass out because the belt is too tight, chances are you’re suffering for beauty. Get the hint, and find a belt that fits. Don’t wear a wide belt too low, the look is less than flattering. And lastly, don’t over-accessorize. The belt is the centerpiece of your outfit. Think twice about loud jewelry and overly embellished shoes.

What do you think about the wide belt trend? Think they’ll make it a couple more seasons? Personally I love this trend. I was too young to really take advantage of it the first time around, and now being petite, I just love the slimming effect of wide belts.

A 5000 Wedding - Is it Possible?

July 20th, 2007

Finally, time to start planning for skin day every girl dreams about, the day you say “I do”. You start planning, the dress, venues, reception and invitations when you start to realize the cost that is abundantly accumulating. In the Pacific Northwest, the average cost for a wedding (including rings) is $30,000. However, not everyone is willing or able to spend that kind of money for their wedding! Here at NWweddingplace, we would recommend to anyone that they go into their marriage debt free, or with as little debt from your wedding as possible. Maybe that still means you could spend $30,000 and be just fine (or your parents could). In these modern days, the brides and grooms are often footing the bill for the glorious day. Maybe that means you could only afford $20,000… or $12,000…. or what about only $5000? We believe that it is possible to have a nice wedding with a budget of $5000. We’ve come up with the essential 12 wedding must-have categories (below), not including your rings. For each category, we offer several possible solutions for having a nice wedding for less:

#1 - Wedding Dress

Brides, you can buy a really great wedding dress for under $400. In fact, NWweddingplace.com sells destination wedding gowns in our shop online section… just a thought! Anyway, there’s always the tradition of wearing your mother’s passed down dress too. You can get it altered if necessary! Maybe a friend has one you could borrow? Or, purchase a used gown - it was only worn once before! If you’re really talented, make your own. Approx. cost - free to $400.

#2 - Tuxes

It is not uncommon to ask your groomsmen to pay for their own tux rentals - Just like bridesmaids buy their own dresses. Then, the only one you’d need to pay for is the groom’s. At some tux rental shops, you can receive the groom’s tux rental for free when the groomsmen rent there also. Approx. cost: $100.

#3 - Venue

This is where it can become potentially expensive. For a spring or summer wedding, consider having your special day at a park, landscaped backyard, beach, or on city grounds. If you belong to a church, usually they will allow members to use facilities very inexpensively or even free. City parks and community centers normally offer low pricing! Approx. cost - Free to $450.

#4 - Decorations

For ceremony decor, it totally depends on what your venue looks like and how much decoration it needs (or doesn’t need). We have many low-cost aisle runner ideas. Tulle fabric is inexpensive, and can be creatively used to decorate ceremonies with.

To decorate your reception, try using high-impact, big bang for your buck items like balloons. Balloons are a beautiful and inexpensive way to add elegance to the room. Floral centerpieces can get pricy, unless you DIY them yourselves. As an alternative example, try using crystal hurricanes with floating candles, and tulle as a table runner. Using petals and tea lights is simple and inexpensive too. Use the bride’s bouquet and bridesmaids’ bouquets strategically at the bridal party’s table to add some floral beauty. Simple guest books and toasting sets can be purchased very inexpensively at party or craft stores. Approx. cost - $150-$350

#5 - Guest Favors & Gifts

It can be expensive to get all your guests little thank-you gifts. Although, Jordan almonds are very affordable! It is traditional to give your guests little sash bags full of Jordan almonds, whose bittersweet taste is said to signify life, and the sugar coating is added to ensure a sweeter marriage. Giving 5 almonds represents health, wealth, longevity, fertility, and happiness! Normally, edible guest favors are great, since they are less likely to be wasted.

For your bridesmaid gifts, put your centerpieces to good use! Or, buy your attendants a wedding jewelry set. Ladies love jewelry, it’s great for future use, they need some for your wedding, and it would all be matching - perfect! Approx. cost - $175

#6 - Photography

This is an important aspect. In 30 years, you may not remember every detail about your wedding day and that’s when you look at your wedding pictures. Photographers are very expensive, and you have them for a limited time period. If you’d be willing to hire someone for one hour, have them come right at ceremony time. Ceremonies usually lasts for 20 min, and then they can take posed shots of the couple and families for approx. 30 min afterward.

Ask your friends to bring their digital cameras. With technology today, it’s easy to edit, crop and touch them up yourself. If you have a friend that does photography work, ask them to take your pictures as their gift to you. Have disposable cameras on your reception tables for guests to capture candid shots. It can be fun to see all the pictures that your friends and family took! Afterward, you’ll probably want to print some out and this will require ink and photo paper. Approx. cost - $75-$700

#7 - hair & Accessories

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Why not wear jewelry passed down in the family or borrowed from a friend? If you’re set on new items, accessory stores offer a big selection at great prices (especially during sales).

You should be able to get all your bridal accessories for $150 or under if you shop smart. Veils are fairly easy to make yourself if you have any sewing skills at all. If not, maybe you have a handy friend? A simple veil would only cost about $15 to make yourself!!

#8 - Cake

This is where your bargain shopper instincts really kick in. Wedding cakes come in all shapes, sizes and prices. Generally, they are fairly expensive. If you know someone who makes cakes, find out if they are willing to make yours as their gift. Another money saving idea is to order from a store or bakery in plain pieces. In other words, order 2 or 3 sections separately, plain, in white or ivory. Decorate them yourself with flowers, ribbons or with other items from craft stores. Approx. cost - Free (if a gift) to $250.

#9 - Music

Try downloading music and making CD’s to play for your ceremony and at the reception. Ask your maid of honor or best man to be in charge of making announcements (i.e., time to cut the cake, first dance, etc.), and keeping track of switching the music when necessary. Approx. cost - $25.

#10 - Flowers

The scale of wedding floral varies a lot, from very simple to very extravagant and lush. If you are wanting extravagant and lush, prepare to pay for it unless you’re willing and able to do a lot of it yourself.

Use fresh flowers from a local store. Before you go, make a list of everything you need flowers for so you don’t forget anything. Find flowers suitable for your bouquets and wrap the stems with securing wires and ribbon. Some bouquets are literally just long-stemmed flowers held loosely together with ribbon. If you’re not against silk flowers, there are many artificial flowers available at craft stores that can add an elegant, garden feel to your ceremony and reception. Get store bought flowers for your cake, reception tables and boutonnieres as well. Approx. cost - $100-$250.

#11 - Invitations

Try DIY invitations. There are many beautiful invitations that you can purchase and print out on your own computer. Or, having them professionally printed costs less if you already have your own paper. Are you skilled at paper crafting? Stamping? Calligraphy writing? Any of these skills could help you make your own invitations. Any way you choose, you’ll need to purchase paper, envelopes, stamps, and possibly printer ink. Approx. cost - $75-$100.

#12 - Food

Now it’s time to feed your hungry guests! All guests expect to see some sort of food at a reception, even if it’s just hors d’oeuvres. If you’re having a late evening wedding, consider having a dessert bar. Afternoon weddings could have sandwiches or barbequed foods. The easiest way to have food at your reception is to order platters from your local supermarket, or buy snacks in bulk at a warehouse store. Borrow bowls and serving dishes whenever possible to save costs. Some of your close family friends might love to bring food if you asked. What about this idea - use fresh fruit as your reception table decor! It’s snacks and decor all in one! Sparkling cider is less expensive than champagne or wine for toasting with, and obviously more kid-friendly for guests with kids. Stock up during the holidays, or when they otherwise go on sale. Ask your venue if they have plates, cups and utensils to borrow. If not, purchase coordinating napkins, toasting cups and paper plates at a party store or online. Approx. cost - $200-$375.

If you stay within these budget recommendations, you’ll still have money to spare for incidental things like beauty costs, items for flower girls, alterations, shoes, cake topper figurine, etc. As you can tell, being on a $5000 budget requires creativity, planning skills and a bit of spare time. Hopefully with these ideas, you are able to save money and still have the beautiful wedding you dreamed of. And remember, your wedding is only the first day of your married life together. Plan for your wedding and for your successful marriage. Enjoy your wonderful day and happy planning!

Fall Fashion Basics to Splurge On

July 15th, 2007

Trends in women’s fashion come and go, but there are some that never go out of style. Granted, some styles can come back, years and even decades later, but some basics are classic fashion year after year: cosmetics little black dress, the turtleneck, a trench coat, trousers, the sheath dress.

Because these fashions never go out of style, you can afford to splurge a little and get a good quality piece. The fun thing is that you can take these classics and mix them with the current trends for a fashionable and contemporary outfit.

1. The little black dress: Coco Chanel created this versatile dress in the 1920s. But, Audrey Hepburn put this fashion “do” on the map as Holly Golightly in an elegant Givenchy number in the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. With a simple black dress as your canvas, you can add color and current fashion trends with your accessories.

2. A great pair of calf-high boots: In black or brown, this boot is timeless and versatile. It can be worn with jeans, trousers, skirts and dresses (no matter what the hemline is doing this season). Yes, boot trends come and go- this year the ankle boot and the knee-high slouch boot are in. Next year…who knows. But the classic calf-high boot can always be found in stores. You can find them in every heel height, so pick what is most comfortable for you.

3. A basic trench coat: Again, in a nice black, camel or chocolate brown, the trench coat is a classic. Unlike some of the coat and jacket trends of late, not only does the style have staying power, but it fits any shape and size. It goes with every occasion - from the office to a night out. Dress it up with a trendy scarf and gloves or a bright handbag.

4. The sheath dress: With this one, you can combine two must-have’s, if you get a little black sheath jewelry If you want some color, go with a basic color like red or navy. Because they are not trendy kooky colors, they should carry you from year to year. You can also have fun with the fabric by going with a satin or bamboo, the hottest trend in fabric right now for its “green” appeal. Put some kicky ankle boots with it or a trendy wrap so you’ll still look like its 2008.

5. A good pair of trousers: This is essential for any work wardrobe. Face it - it is not often appropriate to wear some of the latest trends in pants wear to the office. Have some basic trousers in a gray, black or brown tailored to fit you. You can trend it up for 2008 with a plaid coat or a funnel neck sweater in the burnt orange, one of the season’s hot colors.

The point here is that there are some items you want to spend a little more money on because they are timeless. You do not want to spend a lot of money on a trendy item that will sit in the closet or the jewelry box after one season. In five years, you’ll probably dig it out and put in a yard sale, getting only get a fraction of what you paid for it. Shop the discount and wholesale stores for the trendiest fall fashions. Take your hard earned money and splurge on the classics.

How to Attach Front Lace Wigs Using Double Sided Tape

July 15th, 2007

Attaching a front plastic surgey wig is not as difficult as it may seem. With just a little practice you will become an expert at dawning your wig and will be able to do it by yourself every time, with no trouble at all. One makeup the major benefits of a front lace wig is that you can apply it yourself, unlike other types of wigs that require an extra set of hands.

Double sided tape and Liquid Adhesives

The two most common materials used for attaching front lace wigs is double sided tape and liquid adhesive. Both of these products are best applied to bare skin on the scalp or on an area of extreme hair loss or balding. Don’t just use any double sided tape or adhesive though. Rather, you should always use attachment products that are designed and manufactured specifically for this use.

Step One

To apply your front lace wig using tape, first prepare your tape by cutting it into strips of approximately 3 inches in length, by 4 inches in width. Now take one of your pieces of tape and place it on the polyurethane tape patch area, right where the lace front connects to it. The next step is to place the strip on the front hairline where it meets the edge of the lace.

Trim and Contour

Now firmly apply pressure, so it is held down in place. Now repeat the procedure until you have attached the entire front edge of the lace to the wig itself. Also, remember to apply adequate pressure to the wig each time that you apply your tape strips. As you move around your head with the tape strips, you will find yourself having to do some tape trimming, so the end finished work contours to the shape of your head.

Cologne for Men

July 6th, 2007

For those who are looking for cologne for men you are going to want to seek out the top fragrances that are popular. After all, you certainly do not want to give a cologne that is subpar and unable to really prove itself in terms of scent or longitivity. People in general demand only the best, and of course that is perfectly acceptable. There are plenty of options that you have to choose from and no reason at all why you should struggle and suffer without the fragrance that is perfect for your needs.

Ultimately, the easiest thing to do is to pick a specific designer that you will stick with. Most people have one or two particular designers that they are particularly fond of. This leads many people to look into searching through specific designers to find their next favorite lingerie While on occasion you are going to venture to a designer that is different those occasions tend to be very rare for the average person. To make the process easier let us take a Abecita to look at some of the biggest designers available.

Giorgio Armani is going to be an absolute favorite. With a refreshing line of great scents that are able to stand the test of time, you are going to absolutely adore these fragrances and find yourself loving then all. With a range from Armani to Acqua Di Gio there are several to choose from that range from daytime to even romantic encounters.

Burberry is another highly popular designer. There are few men or women who have never enjoyed a good Burberry scent. There is something almost inhuman about not liking the intriguing scents that Burberry creates. They also have a wide range of fragrances to choose from though ultimately much bigger than the selection that Armani offers so your choices are much greater here.

Sean Jean may be somewhat new to the fragrance department however; he is certainly coming out strong with several great fragrances that are tried and true favorites for men all around the world. There is no doubt that those who enjoy a bit of originality are going to be thoroughly impressed with the Sean Jean line and of course Unforgettable it shall be.

Another highly popular designer is Ralph Lauren. Those who have never heard of Ralph Lauren are sorely missing out, as there is a huge collection of fragrances available from those that are sweet and mild, to those that are a bit fruity and even those that are quite strong and spicy. With a scent that is guaranteed to be perfect to fit your personality, you simply cannot find a more diverse designer for cologne anywhere.
